BALANCE AND INTERRUPTIONS, LIKE THESE SHORT PAUSES IN FRONT OF THE AUDIENCE, RESERVED, ENIGMATIC, BECOME AS INVALUABLE AS THE MOVEMENTS THAT TIE THEM TOGETHER. THE DANCE PIECE IS SHORT, AS IF IT WAS STILL JUST A DRAFT. IT LEAVES US A LITTLE HUNGRY FOR MORE WITH ITS STRING OF HAUGHTY AND EASY TRICKS. THE ARTIST IS VERY YOUNG HOWEVER AND HER STORY – WE FEEL AND HOPE – IS ONLY JUST BEGINNING.

Description

“Intimacy is not a concept or a theoretical notion, it is a word charged with affect and the experience of life.” J. Baudrillard

Ma Cabane au Canada is Perrine Valli’s very first work, a very intimate project, a sort of self-portrait of an artist considering her art and reflecting on which parts of herself as an artist she can/wants to reveal. Why confront oneself to the other’s gaze? Face the other in order to face oneself? It is the body that leads to the inside, touching upon notions that have always “bothered” Perrine Valli: revealing oneself, identity, femininity, notions with no real definitions or solutions.

The work addresses the topic of space both in tangible (scenography outlined with lines) and abstract terms (intimate sphere, interiority). What is of interest here is not to try and represent intimacy through movement but to work on the ambiguity it represents, because intimacy is first and foremost an abstract and subjective notion…
