DOMINIQUE BLAIS IMAGINES A PROJECT ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A PLACE AND ITS ARCHITECTURE, ITS AUDIENCE AND ITS WORKS. THE ARTIST INVITES CHOREOGRAPHER PERRINE VALLI TO TAKE OVER THE SPACE BY COMMISSIONING A PERFORMANCE IN HIS INSTALLATION. THE CHOREOGRAPHY IS BASED ON THESE SAME QUESTIONS RELATING TO THE SPATIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE.

Description

MAC/VAL has invited Dominique Blais to design a project relating to his approach to the ties between a place and its architecture, its audience and its works. His proposal answers the question: how does one take space into account? What is the symmetrical relationship between the inside and the outside of a museum, between its mission and its envelope ?

The artist then invites choreographer Perrine Valli to take over the space by commissioning a performance in his installation. Valli’s choreography is based on the same issues relating to the spatial relationship between the inside and the outside. The choreographer stages the sound of water, the wind, the solitary and “meditative” bodies, a peaceful rhythm, and a summery feeling. On the ground, two dancers, their gaze turned towards the windows, lie on two strips of lawn, their bodies receptive, like the artist opposite his work or the audience who receives it.
