Description

amara Bacci and Marthe Krummenacher are performers (they have danced for such choreographers as Forsythe, Maurice Béjart, Jiří Kylián, Pascal Rambert, Gilles Jobin, Thomas Lebrun and Crystal Pite).

In Laissez-moi danser, they have decided to keep this role and to commission Perrine Valli, also a performer for Cindy Van Acker and a choreographer, for a dance piece that specifically addresses this point of friction – this intersection. Together they draw a playful portrait of the performer, of their daily life and the behind-the-scenes, in their bodies, their heads, their stories and those of others, by switching roles: “Our job consists of translating a choreographer’s idea. We transmit the messages that they wish to express. In this work, in a way, we have switched the process: Perrine becomes the spokesperson who transmits our ideas. She thus becomes the performers’ performer. Is she a passer-by, a messenger, a muse, a player, a decoder, a filter, modelling clay, a pawn ?”, they wonder.

Perrine Valli is also on stage, embodying the presence of the choreographer who is always in the performer’s mind. Her role is to talk, to be the narrator in the distance who seeks the right scenic codes to stage the dancers’ ideas. Hence, Laissez-moi danser is also a Cubist-minded dance piece, both tangible and abstract, danced and spoken: Indeed, in their choreography, Tamara Bacci and Marthe Krummenacher seek to transmit the emotions they have experienced, their doubts, fears, the stage fright, the pleasure, the fantasies, the limits, the disappointments, while the text evokes more social aspects that focus on recognition and the place of the dancer as much as the system in which choreographic creation takes place. On the empty stage – their home – they thus invite the audience to project themselves in this roleplay, offering a three-headed self-portrait of the “almighty servant” that is the performer.
